The murmuring monks of Munich
This was a place of prayer even before the city of Munich was founded. Like the chapel, this Roman basilica dating back to the 11th century disappeared from ‘Persberg’. The gothic structure that then succeeded it remained for longer. But the ‘old Peter’ style (as the people of Munich affectionately call their oldest parish church) was added to the gothic character in the 17th century, making for a curious blend of Renaissance elements.
For a panoramic view over Munich and its outskirts or even as far as the Alps, you should make for the very top. Open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm on Mondays to Saturdays, with the slightly later opening time of 10 am on Sundays. Entry fee: 2.50/1.50 DM.
