The symbol of Milan
The Duomo is very centrally placed within the city of Milan, and comprises an array of arrows and gargoyles. Built over the period 1386-1813, it includes no less than 135 white marble pinnacles. The highest one of them all acts as a pedestal for the gilded brass 'Madonnina', which seems to almost watch over the city from its 100 metre high position.This also ranks as one of the largest Italian gothic churches and one that bears, amongst many other features, a crucifix that was the work of Leonardo da Vinci. The bell towers afford a wonderful view from where, on a clear day, you can even see the top of the Alps.
