Two symbols of the city of Milan: the Castello (chateau) and the Filarete Tower
Constructed in 1368 by Galeazzo Visconti, it then became, in the 15th century, the lavish court of the Sforzas where, on the bidding of Ludovic The Moor, Bramante and Leonardo de Vinci also worked. In 1893, it was restored by the architect Beltrami and became the site for a series of important museums.
To this day it is still home to the Civici Musei (civic museums). Several collections make up this museum, including the Ancient Art Collection, the art gallery, the Arazzi Trivulzio (tapestry) and the Decorative Art Collection. It is also the site of the Trivulziana Library and Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini is also kept there.
