Madrid is a town where renowned historical monuments prosper. The most famous is without doubt the Royal Palace or Palacio Royal, the Spanish monarchy's residence.
However, one must not forget to walk past the Plaza Mayor, Madrid's famous central square and the Parc del buen Retiro as well as the Puerto del Sol or the Sunshine gate. Finally, the tour would not be complete without a walk past the Toledo and Alcala gates, as well as the communications Palace and the Royal botanical gardens.
The town abounds in marvellous churches all equally spectacular, such as the San Isidro and San Francisco el Grande church. While touring, there is nothing nicer than to refresh oneself at the fountains of Cibeles and Neptune.
Without doubt, the most attractive aspect of the town remains its rich variety of museums and exhibitions.
The National Museum of Prado is considered as one of the 3 most important museums in the world. The Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, in the Villahermosa Palace and the National museum of the Reine Sofia, forms the triangle of art of Madrid along with the Prado.
