One of the few Catholic churches in Berlin
Located on the Bebelplatz, the St-Hedwige Cathedral was built on the model of the Pantheon in Rome, following the plans of Frédéric the Great, Knobelsdorff and Boumann. Since 1930, the church has been the Episcopal seat for the bishopric in Berlin. The church was destroyed in 1943 but the interior has been transformed, rebuilt and consecrated in 1963.
It contains the tomb of the bishop Bernhard Lichtenberg, beatified by Jean-Paul II for his resistance to the Nazi regime.
