Madrid archaeology
This museum is devoted to archaeology and the history of Madrid, from Prehistory to 1561. Located on the old site of the palace owned by the Paredes Counts, the building maintains some original elements from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It was built at the beginning of the 16th century, being refurbished on several occasions. In 1974 a part of the palace was demolished, but some of its original parts were respected. It was rebuilt, integrating the original elements. The collections are displayed in the basement. The permanent exhibition is mainly formed by models, reproductions, dioramas and reconstructions, where objects are displayed in the context they were used. There is also a botanical garden with species that were cultivated in the past. This is a museum that can be very interesting for children.
