The history of money
The museum's current site is the National Factory of Currency and Stamp Tax. Its origins date back from the 18th century, when Tomás Francisco Prieto brought together a collection of drawings, antique books, medals and coins that nowadays form the nucleus of the museum. Other objects have been added to the collection. It was displayed for the first time during the reign of Isabel II, and has been on this site since 1964.
