The face of history
In 1623, destiny was to have an influence on the Freising Dome, not to mention a good many other churches in the south of Germany, with the arrival of the Baroque period. There are very few sacred buildings where the gothic and Roman styles contrast so markedly. This, though, should be another reason to visit the Saint Korbinian structure. The crypt dates back to the 12th century, whilst the cloister, the idyllic courtyard and the many works of art that have been gathered together here over the centuries all bear witness to the greatness and dignity of the place. Bishop Otto von Freising ranks as one of the greatest figures of the time for having composed one of the most significant chroniclers of the Middle Ages and for having the biographer of his ally Friedrich Barbarossa.
