A door without entrance
This monument has become one of the symbols of Madrid, and represents Charles III's interest in renovating the Eastern part of the city. Built in 1778 by Sabatini, it replaced a door whose construction had been ordered in the 17th century by Phillip III, who had it done to receive his wife, Marguerite of Austria.
