This is one of the oldest churches in Madrid, built in the early Middle Ages ' the exact date is unknown. Its current blend of styles is explained by the reconstructions it had to go through after collapsing in 1641 and being burned in a fire around 1820. Quevedo and Lope de Vega, two of the biggest writers from the Spanish baroque period, were baptised here. As a curiosity, the saint who gives the church its name is the patron of comedians.
