A history of seafaring and boating
In Berlin, there are as many as 200 kilometres' worth of rivers and more bridges than even Venice (1000, in actual fact). It is for this reason that the city of Berlin is also known as 'the Venice of the North'. Admittedly, this comparison is stretching things a little, but sailing goes back a very long way here. A number of boating celebrations and regattas are held, plus the historic harbour is often the scene of expositions as well as being home to many boats on which you can enjoy a trip on the water. A permanent exhibition dedicated to boating, a celebration of the harbour and a series of regattas are all planned.
