Berlin's red town hall
Built between 1861 and 1869, the "Rotes Rathaus" was so called because of the colour of its bricks not its politics. The "red town hall" was seriously damaged in the war but was restored between 1951 and 1956 and served as the town hall for East Berlin. After the elections in December 1990, the town hall became, once again, the seat of government of the Land. In October 1991, the Berlin city council and the chancellery of the senate also moved in.
